I am thinking about making this into a story on Fanfiction.net and I'm going to use this blogger to just post additional information about the fanfic and if people ask, I can refer them to this site. I will post the link to the story and chapters here with a summary for each chapter!

Arabella of Chesnier

Arabella grew up without parents, mostly alone in the newly made Tortall fief, Chesnier. She had a nursemaid, Anice, who took care of her like a mother would. She was given the proper upbringing as a lady should, but without parents, Arabella had a free reign in her younger days. She would explore the mountain with a bear cub she met and sometimes wouldn't step  back into the castle until the next day. She played with the local kids and even started using a pet name, Bell, with everyone in the castle. Though she was a bit sad that she had no parents, she felt that they were good people and that she had a good life with Anice who loved her.

The only thorn in her life was her uncle, Saren. He came to visit when she was 6 years old and announced that he would take guardianship over her. He told her that he was her mother's brother. She was small then and didn't know what to think over his visit. Up until now, all the finance was done by her father's accountant and she felt that he was being fair to both the staff in the castle and those in the fief. She had a nursemaid that was the head maid and she had a wonderful cook who would give her sweets and a stableboy who would let her look at the horses that the guards rode. But Saren insisted that she use more gold to make her life "comfortable" and "suitable" for a girl like her. He told her that he wanted to replace her nursemaid with a more capable one from the capital and increase the number of guards but she didn't want anything to change and told her uncle so. After that, he only checked in once every few months and tried to get into her good side.

When she turned 9 years old, she met a traveling knight who came to the border to take care of the mountain giants who remained after the Immortals War. He had fiery red hair with strange purple eyes. Bell was in the mountains with Rion, her bear, and Alcot, her pony, when from over the hills, a group of giants saw her and began to approach her. Rion and Alcot stayed with her but they were swinging their massive fists and just when one was about to kill her, the knight came on a white horse and pulled her away. That was her first encounter with Sir Alanna of Pirate's Swoop and Olau.

Her decision to become a knight was made.






Nicane of Tesserel

Before the Lady Tesserel came and adopted him, he was an errand boy for the court of the rogue in Corus. He was an orphan when his mother died when he was a year old. Living with other street kids, he grew up learning the art of pickpocketing, knives, and lock-picking.  He met her as she was traveling on the road to the palace. Lady Marietta was called to the palace for the annual counsel since her husband died a year ago. She saw him lifting the purse of another merchant and stopped him. At that moment, Lady Marietta would find him over and over again until the boy gave up and agreed to her proposal that she adopt him as her heir and son, since she had no children of her own. He was 10 years old when  she moved back with her to Fief Tesserel down south. He was given the best education and training and was instantly liked by the maids and stableboys because of his charm. He started his page training 3 years later, at age 13, and went to the palace.

In 442 HE, King Jonathan and Queen Thayet proclaim that girls can train for knighthood. But it would be for another 10 years before a brave girl steps up to take on the challenge. Keladry of Mindelan became the first female page in over a century. She inspired many other girls to follow her example and one of them was Arabella of Chesnier, from the new fiefdom won over from the Tusain war. She came three years after Kel, when Owen of Jesslaw appeared with another boy named Nicain of Tesserel. During this time, reports of Scanran raids were increasing and reports about war machines began to slowly trickle in. While they caused trouble for Tortall from the outside, the King's spymaster, Baron George of Pirate's Swoop, are getting information that there are large movements of traitors of the crown in the Chesnier fiefdom. Naturally, Arabella was suspected when she came to Corus but she claim no knowledge of any such traitorous notions.

In the lower city of the Corus, a new rogue had been established after the retirement of the Whisper Man. This was a young man by the name of Kinrel. He was sharp and very deadly with only a smile for his young brother, Nic. He had taken the post at the request of the Whisper Man when his successor was unable to control the criminal ventures in Corus. While he had given his word that he would protect Corus and Tortall, he slowly begins to move his pieces around the table in capture not only the throne, but also of the neighboring kingdoms as well. He will protect Tortall, but he was never sworn to protect in relation to the Whisper Man or his new King, Jonathan IV of Conte. He strikes a contract with a young noble lady and begins to nip at the tail of the Provost's Guard.

What will happen to Tortall when it is being ravaged from both inside and out?
